The main things you need to know:
Once you have become familiar with the chat software you plan to use, you will discover they all work in a very similar manner. They all have their good points and their bad points. You are not limited, use whichever one works best for you. Before logging in for the very first time, you will need to register a username and password. To access our chat service, either load up your own dedicated chat software, or use your web browser to access one of our web-based chat programs. Enter your username and password and the server name. For our chat service, the server name is "speedwaymail.net". Some programs have separate fill-in boxes for the username and servername, while others use one fill-in box for both. In those cases, you enter the username and servername like this: username@speedwaymail.net Do not click on "Create Account" or select any checkboxes that say "New login" or something similar. Since you are required to register for a username and password ahead of time, you already have an account set up on our chat server. Once you've filled in the username, password, and servername, go ahead and log in. If successful, there is usually an indication that you are online and available for chat. However, at this point, you are not yet in a room. You are already logged into the "speedwaymail.net" chat server, where you can have an individual one on one chat with another user. But now you need to go further, to the part of the server that controls the chat rooms where multiple users can join together for an online chat. Some programs have an icon to click on or a menu item to select in order to locate a room. Some refer to this as "joining a group". Once you've found this, you will need to know how to search for available chat rooms. Your chat program will ask you for a "conference" server or a "room" server name. In this case, it is simply "conference.speedwaymail.net". You should be able to get a list of available rooms. Depending on the software, you will then select the room and click on "Join" or simply double click on the room name. If you've made it this far, you are most likely presented with a display showing the current users in the room along with text that each user is typing and a box where you can type in your responses. When you are done, either locate the logout button or simply close everything out. The speedwaymail.net server will know you have left. Have fun and enjoy the service. |
